Illusio Design is the brainchild of Chuck Spidell. I live and work in Portland, OR with my family: my sweethart Laura, two sons: Zach and Turner, and two cats: Mica and Pedro. My design inspiration comes from old antiques, retro fonts, photography, and illustration. Back in the day, I used to curl up with a set of Encyclopædia Britannicas and flip through the pages, admiring the glorious and often kooky scientific illustrations. Today, the Internet is basically one great big encyclopedia. When not designing, I love hanging with my two sons. Turner is just over one-month and appears to be a night owl like Daddy Chuck. Zach on the other hand loves dancing to very loud music (yeah!), bowling, disc golf, hiking, and generally throwing things. I’m also a big fan of making killer mojitos for my friends and intrigued by chimps and luchadores.What’s up Chuck?

Music is a huge part of my personal and professional life.
This month’s music favorite is “rush” from the unncessary music series. “pop” is an especially good mix with energetic tracks by Animal Collective, Beach House, and Here We Go Magic. I’d suggest heading over there and downloading them all. On a sidenote, my iTunes frequently rotates tracks from Talvin Singh & Rakesh Chaurasia’s album “Vira,” reaffirming my strong appreciation for traditional Indian music. Tablas are great for designing.
